Root Canal Procedure

A root canal is a procedure that extracts decayed pulp from the central part of the tooth, reshapes the canal, and replaces it with strengthening filler.

If the tests are positive, a root canal treatment will be initiated. A root canal treatment is needed because the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. To save the tooth, the living tissue inside the tooth known as the pulp, nerves, bacteria, and decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with dental medicated materials.

Having a root canal completed is the treatment of choice to save a tooth otherwise it will have to be extracted. Many patients believe that removing a tooth is the solution, but they don't realize that extracting a tooth will ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth.

Root canal treatment is highly successful (80-90%) and usually lasts a lifetime.

What Is a Cavity?

A cavity is the result of superficial decay of the tooth's enamel. Left long enough, this decay can burrow into the deeper reaches of your tooth, causing severe damage to its structure.

When the damage goes beyond what can be treated with a filling, we can perform a root canal, preserving the tooth and retaining its original integrity, thereby saving a tooth that would otherwise have to be pulled out.

"Julia was hilarious and found a hole in my tooth. I didn't feel pressured to make any decisions but was educated about them. This is cliche, but I didn't feel like another number and moneymaker like I have felt at other larger practices"
